Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York “Democratic socialist” running for congress, showed how remarkably clueless she is with a flippant statement that compared fighting Nazis to combatting climate change.
During a campaign event held on Friday, the congressional candidate said that the nation’s “blueprint” for fighting climate change needs to be the same as it was when the U.S. fought and defeated Nazi Germany in World War 2.
She said, “So we talk about existential threats. The last time we had a really major existential threat to this country was around World War II. And so we’ve been here before, and we have a blueprint of doing this before. None of these things are new ideas. What we had was an existential threat in the context of a war. We had a direct existential threat with another nation, this time it was Nazi Germany, and Axis, who explicitly made the United States as an enemy, as an enemy.”
She also said, “And what we did was that we chose to mobilize our entire economy and industrialized our entire economy and we put hundreds of thousands if not millions of people to work in defending our shores and defending this country. We have to do the same thing in order to get us to 100 percent renewable energy, and that’s just the truth of it.”
World War 2 veterans, who risked everything to defeat Nazi Germany, must be utterly offended by Cortez’ flippant comments. Her statements showed that she is clueless about history, but were still insulting to the many men and women who risked their lives to prevent the spreading of evil across Europe.
During World War 2, nearly half a million U.S. military members were lost, according to statistics at the National World War II Museum.
Ocasio-Cortez continued to put her foot in her mouth. She said, “It may seem like really big, it may seem really ambitious, it may seem really ‘radical’ as [we] like to say. But the fact of the matter is we are dealing with a radical truth and a radical reality, and the more we choose to ignore it, the worse we are doing by our children, and our grandchildren, and frankly ourselves.”
Not surprisingly, the socialist failed to mention that the U.S. currently leads the globe in reducing CO2 emissions.
Barack Obama recently endorsed Ocasio-Cortez for the upcoming midterm elections. She is a critical part of the Democrats’ “blue wave.” But most Americans are terrified of socialism and do not want it here–they see how th economic system has destroyed Venezuela and other parts of the globe.
