Six thousand Central American migrants are currently camping out in Tijuana, Mexico, waiting to enter the United States, whether it be legally or illegally, after arriving there on a caravan that came all the way from Honduras.
The Daily Caller reported that the migrants have nowhere to go, so they’re staying in Tijuana while they apply for asylum at the American ports of entry. Deutsche Welle’s Spanish language channel, DW Español, went to Tijuana to interview some of these migrants, and the footage is downright infuriating.
When a reporter asked one migrant about the conditions at her encampment, she started complaining about the free food she is getting there from the Mexican government, calling it food for “pigs” and saying she would “die of hunger” if she did not eat it.
“The truth is, the food that they’re handing out here is terrible,” the migrant said. “Look at what they’re giving us. Refried beans, as if they were feeding the pigs. And the truth is, we don’t have any other options. If we don’t eat this, we will die of hunger.”
This comes after President Donald Trump sent a warning to the migrants over the weekend, saying, “Illegal immigrants trying to come into the USA, will be detained.”
“We have large numbers of people trying to get into our country,” he added. “I must say the reason it’s increased so much is because we’re doing so well as opposed to the rest of the world.”
Trump added on Twitter, “The Mayor of Tijuana, Mexico, just stated that ‘the City is ill-prepared to handle this many migrants, the backlog could last 6 months.’ Likewise, the U.S. is ill-prepared for this invasion, and will not stand for it. They are causing crime and big problems in Mexico. Go home!”
